Having SEEN, they continued in Faith
Life can be hard and complicated. I believe a big key to center our lives despite feeling overwhelmed often times, or sinking, or drowning.... is to get vision, a word from the Lord for our lives.
When we have vision for where we are currently at, then we can SEE what we are walking towards. It will keep us firm when shaky waters come. And it will keep us from wandering to the left and to the right and being distracted by other things.
Hebrews 11:13 "These (people) all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having SEEN them and greeted them from afar." They had a goal, vision, a destination they were seeking. The Lord had spoken to them, and they moved towards it with their whole lives. They were confident in the choices they made to follow what God had told them.
Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the ASSURANCE of things hoped for, the CONVICTION of things not seen." I believe this 'not seen' is referring to our physical eyes. I do not believe it is referring to our spiritual eyes. With our spiritual eyes we can see and have faith in what God shows us. It says we are assured and convicted about the things we see with our spiritual eyes! Those are strong words to hold us tightly in the things we choose to walk towards.
Proverbs 29:18 "Where there is no vision (prophetic words from God), the people perish (lose self-control/restraint)." In the parentheses are words from other translations. It shows here that vision is getting words from God. If we do not have vision from God for what we are walking towards, then we lose heart and motivation to continue on a narrow path. We need the current words of God for our lives so we can be pulled forward into what he is calling us to. We will have the motivation, courage, and tenacity to keep moving towards it, even when disappointment tries to take it from us. Or when fear or failure or people's words or circumstances try to discourage us. If we don't let those things steal our vision and blind us, then we can keep faith as we let God's words to us and the vision He's given us keep directing us forward. We can hold tightly, knowing God's words ARE in fact more powerful than the things that come to knock us down, distract, and discourage us.
I feel the Lord confirmed these words today through these Bible verses. He wants us to be a people who consistently hear His voice and know He is speaking to us. He loves telling us how much He loves us. And He loves calling us out and daring us to do great things.
Read Hebrews 11. It shows us all the great things He's called His people to do. There's more to this life than believing we can be pretty good people because Jesus died for us. We can also have an ongoing relationship with Him that breaks down all our walls, and confronts all our inadequacies and fears. He wants to go on an exciting journey with us. We can live with a heart alive, pursuing the words He speaks to us and walking towards the visions He gives us.
Also, Hebrews 10:22-25. We come with a true heart and full assurance that we are welcome and He wants to speak to us. Jesus tore the veil so we could enter in. God has things to say. Let us stir each other up, meeting together, and going to the Father for his current words and vision for us.
