John 21 : Follow me wherever I call YOU.

John 21
: my expanded version

After helping Peter catch an abundance of fish after a long night of finding nothing... Jesus asks him about what he's been doing...

Jesus: Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?
Simon Peter: Well yes. You know how much I love you.
Jesus: Feed my lambs.
Simon Peter: Lord, I'm a fisherman. Yes I want to feed your lambs but it's hard. I sat there praying for days and nothing was happening. I don't know how to feed your lambs.
Jesus: Simon, son of John. I know who you are. Do you love me?
Simon Peter: Yes Lord. Of course. You know that I love you. But that doesn't make me a good leader.
Jesus: Tend my sheep. Watch over them. Help them.
Simon Peter: Lord. *sigh* I want to serve you well. I will always love you. But I'm a fisherman. That's what I know how to do. I don't know how to stand up to the Pharisees and lead people away from them. They will kill me.
Jesus: Simon, son of John, do you love me?
Simon Peter: Oh Lord. Why do I have to go against the courts and rulers to love you? Why can't I be a fisherman and love you? Lord, you know all things. You know that I love you even still today.
Jesus: I am calling you to feed my sheep. I am not calling you to be a fisherman any longer. You cannot even find fish if not for my father who provides them. He's calling you to a hard path. Not unlike mine. But that's where we'll be with you. We'll be so near to you when you come where we're calling you. You will not receive a better path than mine. Follow me.
Simon Peter: ...And John, your other disciple? What about him?
Jesus: If it is my will that he lives and is not killed like you, what is that to you? His calling is separate from yours. YOU... follow me.
